Wow what an ending!!

Feedback from some of my clients for my FMP and people who have followed my work and attended my exhibitions.

feed2 feed3feed 1.

As you will se from my original research I was very much going to stick with my general documentary photojournalist style of photography for my FMP but I accidentally came across a story during my research of a photographer (Joel Robison) who had written a piece on how his work had been stolen and used by another person for their own gain.

I read this story and it really hit a nerve the thought of someone stealing photos and taking the credit for themselves is so wrong, also his images were fascinating and so magical, I think the fantasy style of his images really drew me in, but also the story so that weekend I did a mock photo shoot with my partner in some woodland not far from home and decided to try my hand at documentary style miniature photography, when I had my finished result I contacted Joel Robison to ask him for his opinion on my edited image, he was kind enough to give me some constructive criticism but mostly he was very kind and encouraging.

FMP Evaluation

I decided that with this new idea I was going to emphasis the fact that if you take that risk to follow your dreams they can work, and due to the decline in new business in Coventry, Fargo has proved that with a lot of hard work and support it really does pay off, so I spent a could of weekends doing photo shoots with the residents at Fargo and they were all up for it and the shoots went really well. I decided to call the project Dream Big as I think the images are a great visual metaphor for that title.

Then I started to compose my images and to my surprise they were actually good, the more I edited them the more confident I became, and by the time we were ready for printing I had 4 completed composite miniature business owners ready and waiting.

I feel I have good justification to keep doing these images, as most of the businesses and the Fargo Village them selves are going to use them to promote getting new businesses to start up there.

I feel very proud of what I have achieved for my FMP and my project got some great feedback and reactions from people. I will definitely carry this on as a future venture.

I am also attending a workshop of Joel Robison’s in London in July so I am very much looking forward to learning some new skills.

So i have finished my FMP it was a great success, i had lots of positive feedback from peers, visitors, friends and family that all managed to come to the exhibition, it was a fantastic evening we had lots of fun and met some lovely people. i managed to run this exhibition along side another personal exhibition i have in coventry also.

During the exhibition planning my job was to do all the printing for the images as i have had a lot of work experience working in the copy and print section of staples for over a year, i really enjoyed this job as it was something i loved to do and it gave me lots of satisfaction seeing everyones faces light up when their images had printed out, i also got given an extra job which was to set up a new Instagram page as our original one that was set up wasn’t really working well enough to get us followers and interest for the exhibition, so i took that over and within the week we had nearly 20 followers and people were liking our behind the scenes images. i also enjoyed doing this as i enjoy promotion on social media which has somewhat changed since my opinion of it back in march when i refused to go back on Facebook because i didn’t feel it was necessary, but i take it all back as since i have going Facebook again my photography has become well noticed!

I had less than a week to promote us on Instagram i think i did quite well considering all the other jobs i did too 🙂 i was happy with how the Instagram promotion went.

Shoots 1,2 & 3 – FMP

So I’ve done a lot of images over 1000 to choose from so I can edit and put them together to make my miniature images …. I will be adding more information to this blog about my shoots and the planning …. But here is one of my edited images …. I’m not sure if I prefer colour or black and white 🙂

Project Specification – FMP

Test Shoot 1

I decided that I would go out and do a test shoot for this project to work out how to do my editing as it is something I have never tried before, especially with documentary work, I feel this is a new way for me to go.

I was really happy with the result of my editing, and it took just over 1 hour to edit, the only thing I wish I had done is think more about my framing of the image, because for my FMP I want the images to be square format. I will be doing another test shoot before I begin the shoots for my final images.

These are the images that I started with.

This was my result.

PAUL EDIT final! SHADOWS low res

My aim for this project is to show people and something which represents them within one image, whether they are a business owner or whether it’s a hobby I think it’s a fun way of doing a documentary style project.

I did have an idea of maybe doing a fairy series of the same thing but with something they dream about having or are working towards.

The images would be something like this

This is just something I mocked up for this but I decided against that idea because I figured what represents people is more realistic in my given time frame.

Project Plan – FMP

I was lucky enough to be accepted into the Fargo Village family in Coventry where i was able to put up an exhibition of my existing work! Very exciting! Also it was a lot of hard work! but it was definitely worth it, so i have been spending a lot of my spare time there over the last two months and the shop owners and residents are all fantastic! and are all in the same position as i am … just starting out so i have decided to document these amazing people in a very fun way! And luckily enough every single one of them is on board for the photos!! They love the idea and they are all massively supportive!!! I have never been around so many encouraging and lovely people in one place!!! So between 7th – 10th May i will be spending the weekend doing my shoots with the girls and guys there and then spending my evenings getting them edited ready for printing!! All alongside my written work to support it!!

I had originally gone into Coventry to photograph empty shops but came across this protest – to do with a polish politician – unfortunately they didn’t speak very good English so I wasn’t able to grasp the full story. But they were happy to have photos taken and thanks to the weather being so nice I got some great shots. They would be ideal for a tabloid news story, as there is a big community of polish in Coventry so it would appeal to them as well as local people to see what is happening in their city.

I really enjoyed this shoot, the people were lovely, there was lots of community support not only from English but from all cultures and backgrounds which was fantastic, there was no trouble at all, it was all very relaxed, there was a police unit available should any trouble occur.

There are only a few photos from this shoot as it would be for a newspaper there would only be maybe 1-3 images maximum I feel these would be perfect to compliment the story.
